This ‘shut down’ all hinges on one simple factor that I have yet to hear defined or given any statistics.
When will our entire population have been exposed to the virus? Only after all have been exposed can we resume our lives if you want any sort of full control over the number of people being treated and reducing the demand for health care to an available level.
Fact is that government has no clue as to how many have already had the virus or how many have not. They have no idea how many are actively dealing with the flu and how many have already beaten it.
Some people want ‘guarantees’ of safety and health. This is what is driving this shut down in the democrats minds. Insuring these.
Funny thing. You cannot ever be assured of anything. A new virus, ten times worse than the Covid19 could pop up tomorrow; be 20 times more virulent; spread through all manner of creatures including pets, wildlife and domestic stock; could have a death rate ten times higher; in other words, make the current issue look like the sniffles. Life is not warranteeable. You cannot get a guarantee. You cannot be absolutely sure of anything.
America was founded on the notion that we were willing to take the chance that our nation could survive. Not just in the face of the wilderness but from invasion or pestilence. The one common factor over the colonies at the outset of the revolution was the huge question mark about our survival. Citizens took the responsibility of their own well being upon themselves not looking to government to provide this. They cooperated with other citizens in their efforts to ensure peace and safety from physical attack. However, their health and their ability to withstand the rigors of life in primitive times was up to each and every person.
Much in the same light, truly free citizens have the obligation of determining their own safety in the face of this flu and determine for themselves when they should resume normal activities. No person in government has the ability to actually protect or predict anything other than their best GUESS. Models. Predictions. Data analysis. All of these rely on GUESSING what the future may bring. Opinions are based on a lot of things but essentially are nothing more than educated guesses and each and every one of us are capable of doing the same thing without government intervention.
This epidemic is not a tidal wave that will inevitably infect and potentially kill each and every one of us. It is not a wild fire that will consume us where we stand. It is not an absolute anything beyond the fact that a very small few will become very sick and possibly die. Even then, the experts cannot say for certain if you will die or not. This is how varied and random in many ways that the virus is affecting our society.
It is time for free people to make the decision for themselves to return to our lives and take the risks we are willing to take to do so. Regardless as to when the pointy headed bureaucrats decide it is safe to go out, they cannot guarantee that you will not get sick or that nothing bad will happen to you as a result of the Covid19 epidemic. You could not hold them accountable if they are wrong anyways.
Break the quarantine and the shutdown and get on with your lives.
